Hi! My name is Annie and I had a pretty miserable life before I came to PAWS Humane Society to find a new home. My owners didn't have time for me. I was tied outside all the time and they didn't pay any attention to me. I was very lonely.

Every night I would lay outside in the cold winter weather without any shelter to keep me warm by myself. One night I met a friend named Julie who brought me treats and gave me some water. Many times my water would spill and sometimes it was frozen. No one worried about me much until Julie came along.

Annie had no way of knowing it, but she now had a guardian angel watching over her. "Julie visited me frequently when she walked her dog and would always stop and talk to me. I wasn't used to someone caring about me like Julie did."

One night when the weather was so cold out, Julie talked to my owners about me and how she was worried that I didn't have very good shelter. They did bring me inside for awhile, but it wasn't long and I was outside again.

Much to our surprise at PAWS, the owners brought Annie to the shelter and surrendered her for adoption. We all hoped we could find the home with a loving family that she so much deserved. Julie's courage to approach these owners and express her concerns must have had an impact on them. Thankfully they did the right thing and brought Annie to PAWS to find a better home.

Annie came to us with a cut above her eye of unknown origin, her coat mattered and dirty, and very timid. "I was very scared at first at the shelter. I didn't understand why my owners had brought me there and left me."

Annie's first adoption lasted two days before she was returned to the shelter. Altho we at PAWS were disappointed this home didn't work out, it would prove to be the best thing that could have happened for Annie. "My new friends at PAWS said they would keep trying to find me a forever home and someone to love me."

Ron, Deb, and their daughter, Demi had been looking for another Golden for their Maggie, a 3 year old Golden Retriver. Deb had decided to check out Petfinders and then came to our pawsonline.org website. Whether it was Annie's sad story or her sweet face----or both, Deb made a call to PAWS and arranged a time to come visit Annie at the shelter.

Annie found a loving family! Ron and Deb adopted Annie. She was still recoving from being spayed and now complications had developed. Annie was continuing to bleed and she had to go back to the vet clinic where she spent the next five days. Deb and Ron had to leave her there after only one day in her new home. Both of them agonized over leaving her at the vet clinic and worried about Annie's health problems. "I wasn't feeling well and I was very confused. I thought I had a new home, but now I had to stay at the vet's clinic. I felt very alone and scared again."

Finally Annie got to come back home, but continued to bleed. Ron and Deb never gave up on this dog and stood by her to give her the very best of care. A bleeding, anxious, stressed dog can be a challenge to deal with, but their dedication to this dog never wavered. "This is me and my new dad. He laid blankets on the floor and stayed with me when I wasn't feeling well. I've never known kindness like this before, but I'm liking it!"

I guess I'm a lap dog and didn't know it! I still wasn't feeling very good and my dad let me sit in his chair with him. I think that even when I'm better, I'm going to still want to be a lap dog.

Oh, you caught me giving my dad my first kiss." Annie's condition improved day by day and even more challenges presented themselves. Annie was a bit food aggressive and didn't want her feet touched to the point of nipping. Ron and Deb stuck by Annie and worked thru these issues. Maggie in the back ground looks a little left out! "OK, I was a little naughty about nipping at my new family when they touched my food and my feet, but they taught me I didn't have to do this. My dad says he's in charge in this house and not me. Who knew that?

Hey, they didn't tell me I had to wear a hat!. Why is Demi and Maggie looking at me? How come they don't have to wear a hat?
