Comet was a shelter dog from the day he was born. His mother came into the shelter pregnant as a stray. One of the PAWS volunteers took her home to foster so that the puppies could be born outside the shelter, but this was a temporary home. Comet, along with 11 other siblings, were born 7-27-2001 and the search began to find homes.

Comet was adopted three times and each time returned to the shelter. Whether it was his size, his bark, or his behavior - these homes just didn't work out and he was brought back and became a shelter dog again. No one was giving up on this boy and PAWS was commited to finding this beautiful dog the right home and the right family.

Each time the adoption failed, we felt disappointment. How can someone not love him? Being listed on pawsonline.org and petfinder.com wasn't enough, Michele started working on listing him on rescue sites. We all kept our fingers crossed that this would help find the right family and a forever home.

David and Marie McCloud drove 5 hours from Batavia, Illinois to PAWS Humane Society in Charles City, IA to look at Comet. He had been first spotted on one of the rescue sites and the emails began! Comet didn't know it yet - and neither did any of us - that this was the beginning to the end of him being a shelter dog.

David and Marie arrive at PAWS Humane Soceity. They had brought toys and raw hide chews for all our dogs at PAWS, a big bag food for our cats, and even a box of candy for us! As we watched them bond with Comet, we knew this going to be a perfect match. They were kind and caring people who had a big heart for the well being and treatment of animals. They described their dogs as their "babies" and shared pictures of their yard and house where Comet would be living. This is the family that we had hoped for and that Comet had deserved his whole life.
