Once in awhile a dog - or a puppy in this case - comes into PAWS Humane Soceity that has not been abused, abandoned, neglected, or even unwanted. Ben was a purebred St. Bernard whose owners developed an allergy to his fur and had to surrender him to PAWS for adoption.

| Ben was only 7 months old and already weighed 95 pounds. He had been neutered, was house broken, knew some commands, and was child friendly.

| This big puppy was a gentle giant and our challenge at PAWS was to find him a home that could handle his size. Adult male St. Bernards can reach 200 pounds when full grown. This had to be a special home that could accomodate a large - and going to get larger - dog.

| 'Oh boy, Kristie says a nice couple called about adopting me and they are coming to meet me. I'm going to be on my best behavior and maybe they will take me home.'

Every one at PAWS was falling in love with this big puppy and we hoped Anne and Will would fall in love with him too. 'Kristie decided I needed to be brushed before Anne and Will arrive at the shelter. Ok with me. I'm going to keep chewing on my chew bone tho.'

| Anne and Will had been looking for a companion for their 1 1/2 year old Leonberger dog named Abby. Ben's size didn't seem to intimidate them and as Anne put it, "It was love at first sight." I think Ben thought so too.

Ben in his new home with his new sis, Abby. Both Ben and Abby go to Doggy Day Care once a week. Anne tells us that Ben and Abby love to wrestle "almost every waking moment". Sitting for treats is another shared favorite.

| A puppy needs a lot of rest! Ben will start obediance class soon. Anne and Will said he is very good, but needs a little more training and this will help Ben get used to their commands.

| New schedules can be exhausting! Ben and Abby attended a fundraiser tea for a local no-kill shelter. The event was held at a Bed and Breakfast in Mpls called 'Tea with your Dog'. The people got tea and the dogs were served homemade dog cookies and doggie meatballs. Anne reports Ben and Abby were two of the largest dogs there and everyone loved Ben! "Ben is such a love bug and he loves to snuggle and give kisses."
