Sammy Lynn was a beautiful young purebred Lab whose owners didn't have time for. It was unsure how well she was treated in this home. One thing that was certain, no one had bothered to give her the love and attention she needed. Sammy was underweight and had open sores on her ears from fly bites. She deserved so much more, but had come to expect feeling unwanted. PAWS works very hard at taking good care of their animals that sit within their kennels, but it's not like a real home. Sammy had no choice, but to accept her fate of now living in a shelter.

Pam and Joe had just moved back to the area and bought an acreage. They had both grown up with pets and knew they wanted a dog. A lab seemed like a perfect first pet for them so they made a call to PAWS one day. Our shelter director, advised them to go to www.pawsonline.org and check out Sammy and the other dogs that were available for adoption. Pam fell in love with Sammy's picture online and quickly made arrangements to come to the shelter and visit her. Sammy sat quietly in her shelter kennel when Pam and Joe arrived. I'm sure Sammy had no idea what a wonderful and very different life was ahead of her.

'Hi folks! Sammy here. I got a new home and a family! I'm sure enjoying my new life. Everyday is an adventure now. I get in some mischief at times I guess. Maybe that's why my mom says I've definately made life interesting since I came here! I'm a verrrrry busy girl.'

'This is my new yard with my very own pool and my condo. I like to cool off my feet sometimes and I had been using just a water bucket until mom and dad got me this pool.'

'Me and my first stuffed-squeaky toy. Well, actually, I removed the stuffing and it didn't really need a squeaker so I removed that too. Mom got me some tennis balls and chew bones instead.'

'I love belly rubs and my mom is really good at it. You can never get too many belly rubs in a day. Sometimes I just doze off during a tummy rub. Life is good!'

'My mom and I laughing it up on the deck - just goofing around. If I keep her laughing, maybe she won't notice that I chewed on the deck. Hmmmm.....probably shouldn't have done that, but it seemed like a good thing to do at the time. I'm pretty cute, right mom? I wouldn't get into any mischief!'

'I'm sure mom and dad won't care if I dig a little hole and take a nap.'

'I didn't do it...... whatever it is! Well, maybe I did. I thought you mentioned something about digging a hole right here? I was just trying to help out with the yard work!'

'Dad spent a lot of time fencing in part of this yard for me, but I thought it was more fun climbing over it. I guess that might be some of the mischief I was talking about!'

'My dad and I just hanging out on the deck planning our day. I love my new family. I don't care for cats though! I'd prefer chasing them up a tree if they come into my yard. Of course, I could always blame the cat for some of the mischief I get myself into........ Dad, did I mention a stray cat came into the yard and must have dug that hole? I just fell into it and went to sleep!' Keep them on their toes, Sammy. :)

Thanks to Pam and Joe, Sammy has a second chance for a happy life. She finally has become a member of a family instead of an unwanted inconvenience. Joe and Pam have given Sammy the opportunity to be the happy puppy that she never had the chance to be, surrounded by love and attention. Best wishes, Sammy, from your friends at PAWS. Continue to grow into the great dog we know you can be. We have no doubt you will return their kindness by leaving a forever pawprint on their hearts with your unconditional love.
