The shelter has been without hot water for over 6 months. We are in desperate need for a new or slightly used 50- 100 gallon electric water heater.
We are unable to wash bedding, towels, etc in hot water. We can only clean with cold water and that includes scrubbing the floors and kennels. Of course this is not adequate to thoroughly kill germs. We are doing the best we can, but we really need to get a water heater.
If a dog or cat needs a bath we have to take them to our home to do that.
Please if you know of someone who has one to sell or would like to donate a new one to the shelter, please call 641-257-0766.
Thank you!

Volunteers/Homes Needed for the 4th- Donations Needed
Volunteers/temp homes are needed to help move the dogs before the 4th of July fireworks. As you may know the fireworks will be held very close to the shelter so we need to move as many dogs as possible to temporary homes. Dogs will be brought back the following morning.
The cats will be staying at the shelter. Volunteers will be there to help them cope with the noise. Music will be played, lights will be on and volunteers will be checking on their well being throughout the night.
Adoptions have been slow this past month. Donations are down. We operate solely on donations and every penny goes straight to the care of the animals.
We had a successful rummage sale and are now looking forward to our golf tournament on Sunday, August 30. This is a change so be sure to change your calendars.
Volunteers are needed to help paint the exterior and interior of the shelter. If interested please call the shelter at 641-257-0766. We also need your help in fundraising efforts, and help with grantwriting. If this is your expertise please email Michele at pawpaw7@mchsi.com I would love to talk with you about your ideas! Always in need of dependable dog walkers, dog cleaners and cat cleaners during the week, late in the afternoon.
Thank you! PAWS

Our new Isolation Building is DONE!- please check out our supply list of much needed items!
Thanks to Jeff Powell and his Eagle Project, we have a new Isolation Building. We have needed this building for such a long time and to watch the construction of it was very exciting for us!
A big thank you to Jeff's parents and all those who joined Jeff in his endeavor to make this a reality. We are very grateful!
Now we will need some new items to help complete the project. Listed in our "Shelter Supply" list would be:
Cupboards- very good shape Linoleum- new Counter top- very good shape Air Conditioner Ceramic Heater Paint Sink
This building is crucial for us. Any new incoming animals are isolated from the rest of the population and examined for parasites and disease for 10 days.
Right now the building is not in use. We need the above items to help us help the animals.
Thank you for supporting PAWS
Thank you for your generosity!

Sheri Ostman and the Waverly Pet Rescue
PAWS has a very dear friend in the rescue world and her name is Sheri Ostman. She started the Waverly Pet Rescue one year ago with the help of friends and has saved many lives. She is a true animal lover with a big heart. We would like to showcase her dedicated efforts and rescue.
The Waverly Pet Rescue is NOT A SHELTER. They are a small group of people with a sincere love for animals. The towns they live in do not have shelters so they are helping the homeless pets that have nowhere else to go. All the animals that they have will live in a loving volunteer home until adopted no matter how long that takes. They are very committed to the animals they are helping.
If you would like to adopt one of their pets, please email and Sheri will send an application. They are devoted to the animals in their care and do all they can to make sure they are placed in good homes. They require all prospective adoptions to be subject to application and interviewing before adoption approval.
No dogs will be adopted that will be kept strictly outside. They do not adopt to inside / outside homes for cats. If not already done, all animals must be spayed or neutered within 30 days of adoption.
Adoption fees are listed on each profile.
Thank you Sherri for your ongoing efforts to help our animals at PAWS find homes.

ALERT: Grapes/Raisins can be Deadly!
In a recent article in the March 2003 issue of Dog Fancy, and information from the ASPCA's Poison Control Center, has reported cases of dogs dying from kidney failure after injesting grapes or raisins. One or two grapes are probably not a problem, but every dog reacts differently. There is not a clear cut reason why our beloved pets are becoming ill. Early symptoms include vomiting, loss of appetite and diarrhea. Some progress into lethargy and abdominal pain. Veterinary care should be sought immediately!
For more information visit www.aspca.org or check out the March 2003 issue of Dog Fancy.
